Q. Do you provide domain registration services?
A. Check out our domain registration site at www.gnsdomains.com for full service domain registration, transfer, and management.

Q. How many years do I have to sign up a domain for?
A. You have the flexibility of registering new domains for differing lengths of time from 1-10 years.

Q. How do I know if my domain name is available?
A. Visit GNS Domains and click "Register" to run a check and see if the name you desire is available.

Q. Why do I need a domain name? What's wrong with those free hosting paces?
A. There are many reasons but the big ones are: Name recognition and advertisements: Having a "dot com" adds prestige and legitimacy to your site. If you want to do business on the Internet, you will be competing with many others - make your site stand out and be found!

With most free hosting sites, there's always a catch. Almost always, support is limited or non-existent. Bandwidth and equipment, and the personnel to manage them cost money! Besides having a generally lousy address (usually along the lines of www.somefreeservice.com/some_folder/some_account_name/etc), you usually have to display an ad or popup window or otherwise have your visitors annoyed. And you usually won't get the best array of features like SSl, CGI, MySQL, etc. There is no such thing as a free lunch! But there is a low-cost one - us!

Q. How long does the process take?
A. It generally takes just a few hours to process a new domain, and it takes another 1-3 days to propagate* around the world after that, so your site should be live within a few days at most! A domain move may take slightly longer since it requires an acknowledgment from the ADMIN contact of the domain before it is processed. NOTE: We've seen some take less than 18 hours and some take 5 days or longer.
* the new TLDs, including .biz and .info do not have a propagation delay for new registrations or changes of nameservers. they are nearly instant.

Q. I registered my domain already - how do I move it to your servers?
A. Visit our new "Domain Transfer" page - there is information on the procedures you will need for many registrars. In all cases, you will have to instruct your registrar to point your domain to new nameservers. We supply you with the necessary nameserver information in the welcome letter you receive when you sign up.

Q. I have or want an international domain - can you offer this service?
A. Yes! We can host any top-level or country-code domain name.

Q. How do I register or move an international domain?
A. GNS Domains can assist with registration and management of only a few country-code TLDs. For the most part you will need to fill out the appropriate paperwork with the registrar for your country's TLD. We have no jurisdiction over changes to international domains, so we provide you all the necessary server information to perform the registration or move yourself.
